This post was meant to go up around Easter, in time for the gluttonous religious event that has everyone gaining an extra 4lb by the time it's over. A few weeks too late shouldn't matter too much because this mixtape is relevant all year round. I've decided to dedicate an entire mixtape to the delicious treats that we like to have on occasion (i.e. every day. Don't judge me).
From 'milkshake' to 'chocolate' there are a lot of tracks that make my mouth water for many reasons. Take my advice, this mixtape is best enjoyed in the company of Ben, and Jerry too, lying in a bathtub full to the brim with dairy milk chocolate. It would mean you'd have to face cleaning the bathroom the next day but it'd be worth it.

I'll admit it, I'm not a massive film buff. I get bored, lose interest, fail to follow the plot and more or less glaze over as soon as the movie starts. I am crap when it comes to movies but I do love soundtracks.
Even in the most mainstream movies you can hear some amazing songs played at the party scene or the pivotal boy finally gets together with girl under the willow tree.
I thought Mean Girls was already a pretty cool movie when I was watching it until I heard the Peaches song 'Operate' playing in the background of the party scene and realised it was beyond cool. Kudos to one Ms Tina Fey so that move by the way.

The Queen of anti-folk Kimya Dawson has recently posted a video of a new song where she attacks the major oil giant BP for...well you know what they've done.
I love that Kimya has always stuck to her guns and protest songs are her thing - her 2006 album Remember That I Love You had the song '12/24' which criticises the American government for not sending enough aid during the 2004 boxing day tsunami disaster.

The issue of consumerism and how it negatively effects women in particular has been around for decades. X-ray Spex and The Slits were singing about it the seventies and The Gossip carried on that trend in the present day with their homage to Poly Styrene, 'Spare Me From The Mold'.
I really think consumerism is a particularly nasty evil in our world. I know I get too addicted to shopping to the point where I begin to think I'm incomplete if I don't buy that new bag or whatever.

The song of the month is The Beer by Kimya Dawson.
Lately I've been listening to this song on repeat cuz I just can't get over how good it is. For ages I couldn't work out exactly what it is that I love about it but I think I know now.
Darker than most of Dawson's uplifting ditties, 'The Beer' tackles her emotions at the worst time in her life.
The lyrics are even more inportant than ever in this song.
