Gossip, Gossip, Gossip...

It feels like I've been waiting forever and a day for the gossip's new album. Ever since I heard the demos of 'heavy cross', 'spare me from the mold' and '8th wonder' last year I knew their new album was going to be amazing. Now I don't have to wait too much longer as the album comes out in just over a week and the the video for the new single 'heavy cross' has premiered on YouTube, through Perez Hilton strangely enough.

It has garnered some criticism with some calling it another 'SITWOC'. I can see the comparison but I'm not sure if I really care, I just love dancing to too much. It allows you have one of those Le Tigre-esque eau d'bedroom dancing moments where you let loose alone in your room without worrying about who's looking at you. I invite you all to draw the curtains, put on 'heavy cross' and flail your limbs about like your having a seizure. It's fun I swear.

**Who Took The Bomp- The Best of Le Tigre**

In light of the recent news that everyone's favourite feminist electro-pop band, Le Tigre, are alive, well and apparently working with Christina Aguilera, no one saw that one coming, we here at Don't Dance Her Down Boys... decided to take a stroll down memory lane and reminise over our top five favourite Le Tigre songs.

5. Keep On Livin'- The LGBT anthem is a dance fest and a half with the best guitar riff I've heard in a long while. The video is pretty cool too.

4. Seconds- I love a good rant and this is a rant and a half. Le Tigre whether together or apart have always been political individuals and Seconds, written in the wake of george bush's war on terrorism, captures them at their most politcal.

3. Hot Topic- A list of the most influential women and feminists in the world is not what many would think makes a hit record but when you add trumpets, hand claps and uplifting choruses it becomes so much more than that.

2. TKO- What a knockout. it's understandably a little more commercial than previous efforts to it's still way more dancable and lovable than anything in the Top 20 now, not that i know but I bet £20 Le Tigre will beat them hands down.

1. Deceptacon- Nothing on this earth could beat this song in the dancablity factor. It's just amazing.

***ONES TO WATCH***

Chew Lips are a weird sort of band, well for me at least. I just can't put my finger on them. Band members Tigs, Will and James push their songs forward into another dimension with strained vocals (I mean that as a compliment) and soaring keyboards.

The riff lover in me is slightly miffed that this riot grrrl is in love with what is essentially an electro band but times change and this is a perfect time to go with the flow respectfully instead of jumping on the Little Boots bandwagon (she was boring in Dead Disco and is boring now).

Anyway to give you a little taster of their best work here is their best song 'Solo'.

Their new single Solo, with exclusive remixes, is avaliable to purchase from Kitsune and to download from most download providers.

*SONG OF THE MONTH*

The song of the month is The Beer by Kimya Dawson.

Lately I've been listening to this song on repeat cuz I just can't get over how good it is. For ages I couldn't work out exactly what it is that I love about it but I think I know now.

Darker than most of Dawson's uplifting ditties, 'The Beer' tackles her emotions at the worst time in her life.

The lyrics are even more inportant than ever in this song.

My favourites are:

"I ate every single one without noticing the mold you said you're gross my darling, I said no I'm rock and roll
The christians gave me comic books as if I would be
scared of burning in hell well I was already there

You can be a teenager for your whole fucking life
just find some pretty sucker and make that bitch your wife

First I cried for him and then I cried for me
haunted by the ghost of the girl I used to be
"

Here's a live version of 'The Beer' at Antifolk #2, Mains D'oeuvres in 2002 and a another version below.

Enjoy x.x.x.
