Le Tigre Annouces Live EP

Everyone's favourite electro pop, feminist band Le Tigre have announced the release of a new Live EP.


Le Tigre Live!, released on 13 March, features recordings from the band's tour in 2004 - 2005. The EP will be released on the band's own Le Tigre Records.

The release will be a relief for fans who have been waiting for news since the band went on hiatus after their last album This Island in 2005.

Currently JD Samson and Johanna Fateman are working on the project MEN, who released their first album last year, and Kathleen Hanna is in the middle of recording an album with her new outfit The Julie Ruin.

More Crackers Please!

The wonderful ladies behind East London club night spectacular Unskinny Bop are hosting a Le Tigre themed benefit for Ladyfest Ten, and cripes, it is a corker! Taking place at Bethnal Green Library on 29 August, this jam-packed day comprises:

– an exclusive preview film screening of Le Tigre: On Tour, an in-progress edit of the forthcoming documentary due out in 2011!

– the chance to sing, dance and be filmed in for our karaoke music video of Keep On Livin’, for submission to the Le Tigre contest!

– entry to ticketholders-only afterparty at a nearby pub featuring Bop DJs and Ladyfest 2002 Allstars!

– stalls, zines, merch, and much more!

Entry is £9 each, and all proceeds go to Ladyfest Ten. Tickets will be available online very very soon so watch this space! The amazing venue for this amazing event is the wonderful Bethnal Green Library, located in the gardens just behind the tube station. We regret the halls we are using are on the first floor with no lift access; however we will do our utmost to ensure no-one with a ticket is prevented from attending.

Le Tigre Confirm X-Tina Rumours

To be honest we already knew it was happening but recently through their official website Le Tigre confirmed the rumours that they were working with diiirty pop princess Christina Aguilera.

Johanna Fateman stated:

I just saw the Marie Claire with CHRISTINA AGUILERA on the cover and I realized we are waaaay overdue for an update. Yes, the rumors are true. . . Le Tigre wrote and produced a couple of songs with Christina! Not wanting to break the spell of this magic opportunity as we wait in suspense to hear if our tracks make it on the album, we’ve been quiet on the topic. But now that the buzz is getting crazy I just can’t contain myself. Needless to say, for a feminist band obsessed with pop music, it was pretty much a dream come true.

Apparently everyone's favourite feminist electro band are fans of Aguilera and are not immune to putting their heroes on pedestals like the rest of us.

Meeting Christina and working with her at her home studio was simultaneously super comfortable and normal-seeming while also kind of a mind-blowing window into another world....... Curling up in sweatpants, puzzling over lyrics and checking her blackberry while the beat loops forever. . . Hey Christina is just like us after all! She is totally cool and hilarious and down-to-earth.

I really wanna know what this X-Tina track sounds like now. It's been rumoured that the result is a sparse, Fever Ray sound, see below:


In other Le Tigre related news, Jo mentioned  that they will be releasing a live DVD in the future which I can't wait for.

Kathleen Hanna Talks to GRITtv

Kathleen Hanna gave an interview to GRITtv this week where she talks about Bikini Kill, the early 90s and donating her zine collection to New York University.

**Who Took The Bomp- The Best of Le Tigre**

In light of the recent news that everyone's favourite feminist electro-pop band, Le Tigre, are alive, well and apparently working with Christina Aguilera, no one saw that one coming, we here at Don't Dance Her Down Boys... decided to take a stroll down memory lane and reminise over our top five favourite Le Tigre songs.


5. Keep On Livin'- The LGBT anthem is a dance fest and a half with the best guitar riff I've heard in a long while. The video is pretty cool too.




4. Seconds- I love a good rant and this is a rant and a half. Le Tigre whether together or apart have always been political individuals and Seconds, written in the wake of george bush's war on terrorism, captures them at their most politcal.




3. Hot Topic- A list of the most influential women and feminists in the world is not what many would think makes a hit record but when you add trumpets, hand claps and uplifting choruses it becomes so much more than that.




2. TKO- What a knockout. it's understandably a little more commercial than previous efforts to it's still way more dancable and lovable than anything in the Top 20 now, not that i know but I bet £20 Le Tigre will beat them hands down.




1. Deceptacon- Nothing on this earth could beat this song in the dancablity factor. It's just amazing.

*MIXTAPE ALERT* Oh Kathleen you're always the B-side to my heart

You lucky bloggers are in for a treat since i've got a whole bunch of Kathleen Hanna's, of Bikini Kill and Le Tigre fame, B-sides and rareties which were mostly recorded during her time in Bikini Kill.

I'll warn you in advance 'Rockstar' and 'Heartbeat' are a bit weird. The Wondertwins were an experimental project who were Kathleen and Tim Green, from Ulysses I.O.U. It was recorded for the famous Embassy Tapes, which also feature Bratmobile's first recording, in Olympia during riot grrrl in 1991.

Hanna collaborated with Joan Jett for 'Go Home' and also featured on Atari Teenage Riot's 'No Success'. I'm not sure where 'Mr Magazine man' is from or who she is singing with, so if someone could help me that would be great, thanks.

Viva Knieval was one of Kathleen's first bands that she sang with. They released a limited EP, titled 'Boy Poison', toured America for a few months and then broke up.

Hanna was also a guest vocalist for the introduction on Green Day's 'Letterbomb' song for American Idiot. More recently her band Le Tigre, now defunct, collaborated with Yoko Ono for her new album 'Yes, I'm a Witch.'
